What are ways I can lower my risk for diabetes problems?
Here are some important ways you can lower your risk for diabetes problems:
Take your diabetes medicine. Follow your healthcare team’s plan for when and how much you should take.
Check your blood glucose daily. Follow you healthcare team’s plan for when to check each day.
Plan healthy meals (see image below).
Get active! Stand up. Move around. Sit less. Set a goal to be active for about 20-30 minutes each day.
Visit your eye doctor at least once a year.
Check your feet for cuts or sores daily. Let your doctor know if you find a cut or sore.
Visit your doctor at least twice a year to check your blood pressure and cholesterol. You may need medicine to lower your blood pressure or cholesterol.
Get help to quit smoking. If you smoke, quitting can reduce your risk of heart disease and strokes.
